Benny, Bjorn, Abbi & Anni were abandoned in the ya

Benny, Bjorn, Abbi & Anni were abandoned in the yard of one of our board members. These sweet kitties were estimated to be between 5-7 years old and were used for breeding. When they were left the girls were sick and the boys were completed matted. We don't know how they even managed to use the bathroom. :( It was so traumatic for them, but we gave them the love, the care and the vetting that they needed to become healthy happy kitties. All of them went to loving homes, Benny & Bjorn went to a home together as Bjorn was so attached to Benny.

Success story for #GTMD22! Last winter, a bonded pair of shy cats went to their dream, forever home. They've become really comfortable and love ❤️ new life with their human, Katie. Her recent update:

"The cats are both doing really well. Otis has really become more confident and comfortable around new people. When someone new comes he usually goes right up to see them. Kiki is doing great too. She loves to play and cuddle. Their current fascination is with putting their toys in the water bowl (mostly Otis does this and Kiki watches). They’re such lovely cats and they’ve made my life better in every way 🥰 Here’s some photos"

#GTMD22 story time! These kitties had a rough jour

#GTMD22 story time! These kitties had a rough journey but are doing much better now thanks to YOU!

Kentucky, Chickie, and Sandy came to us as 6 week old kittens with their brother Colonel last November from a Native American Reservation rescue in South Dakota. Their rescuer said they looked like fried chicken, so they were named accordingly. They were a sweet, friendly, outgoing bunch, with orange kitty purrsonalities! Their foster responded to a casting call for kittens, and their good looks and winning personalities got them a modeling gig for a local headquartered national retailer! Unfortunately, shortly before they were scheduled to be spayed, the 3 girls broke out with an itchy rash. Poor Kentucky, Chickie, and Sandy were itching and grooming their rashes so hard that they lost fur and got scabs. The usual suspects: ringworm, fleas, and mites were ruled out by their veterinary team and a diet of hypoallergenic food ruled out food allergies. The UMN Veterinary Dermatology Clinic diagnosed Kentucky, through eliminating of other diseases, with Allergic Dermatitis. Medication cleared it up in Kentucky and Chickie, who are still doing well and have since been adopted into a wonderful home. Sandy unfortunately wasn’t able to outgrow it and is on a maintenance allergy medicine, which she takes like a champ with a treat!

They were in foster care longer than most kittens. Thanks to your generosity last year, we were able to get these girls the specialized vet care and treatment to keep them healthy and itch-free!"

From lone kittens to brave cats. These felines have made a journey from South Dakota to share their success with you!

These two are part of a group of four that were living as strays in South Dakota. They had no human contact for the first few months of their life, which made them very fearful of humans as they missed exposure to people during that critical socialization period of their life. When their foster first got them in September 2022, they were terrified. She didn’t even see them most of the time. It took two weeks for them to even come out with a person in the room. It was really tough with a lot of long nights. Even the smallest move would scare them. Cheddar (mostly buff) came out first and then Coco (tuxedo). Tart (buff and white) was the 3rd and Cupcake (black and white), the only female, took the longest to warm up. Funnily enough tart was the first one to allow petting.

Today they have made SO much progress. They've been with their foster for a little over a month now and she is able to pet two of them consistently (Coco and Tart). The other two are still wary but fine walking up to her, just no pets yet. We think Coco and Tart will be able to be adopted very soon!

"It’s so rewarding to have super scared, shy, cats learn to trust you. Even the smallest thing such as being comfortable enough to play or eat in front of me is a huge change and such a milestone! Every step is so rewarding for me as a foster."
